Where the Hell is Fiction Writer? (A Love Story)
TL;DR:
Omar, our CTO (and my close friend), has been experiencing a personal emergency and won’t be back until June thirtieth which has been delaying work on launching the fiction writer.
I’ve decided to build a an instance of the fiction writer on a private server and share access to paid Magic Bookifier monthly, yearly and lifetime subscribers.
Most recently I thought I would be able to put it on the site without Omar, but that is VERY slow going.
Let’s talk about Fiction Writer.
It’s been the most anticipated feature since we launched Magic Bookifier. I know that. I’ve seen your messages. Your DMs. Your emoji storms. Your passive-aggressive “Just checking in again 😊” emails.
But here’s what’s going on.
Omar, our CTO—and the original technical lead on Magic Bookifier—has been going through a personal emergency. He’s a dear friend, someone I love like family, and he had to step away from the work through June thirtieth. He’s okay, and that’s what matters. But yeah, it threw a wrench into the Fiction Writer timeline.
Meanwhile, I did what I could to keep things moving. I personally built out Summary of the Internet, which is why you’ve seen it pick up speed. Some folks noticed that and assumed Fiction Writer had been abandoned. Spoiler: it hasn’t. But I totally get the frustration.
And here’s a “fun” story:
There’s one customer who, every time I mention any delay on Fiction Writer, sends me an insult. Just fires it off. Like I’m George R.R. Martin and they’re waiting for The Winds of Winter, but with more venom and fewer metaphors. I have considered, in moments of weakness, deleting their credits with the satisfaction of a digital Thanos snap. I have not done it. But oh, how I have hovered.
Funny thing is—back in the day, I watched George R.R. Martin interviews and thought, “Dude, just finish the book.” And when fans came for him, I’d nod like, “Well, deadlines, man.” But now I see it from the other side. When life hits, and you’re carrying the creative weight, and strangers start calling you names on the internet—it shifts your perspective.
So here’s what I’m doing instead of rage-deleting code: I’m building a brand-new, clean Fiction Writer instance from scratch. Something I can manage, test, and deploy myself. I’ll be using the code I already made but just integrating it into a temporary site for our use while we wait for Omar to come back and fold it into the regular Magic Bookifier site. No untangling old files, no waiting on backend miracles. Just a solid, streamlined version I can roll out when it’s ready.
And when that moment comes, every single paid Magic Bookifier user gets access.
Not a launch offer. Not a “bonus if you act fast.” Just a straight-up thank you for believing in this project and sticking around. I’m not asking for blind patience—I’m asking you to trust that I’m still here, still building, and still doing my best to deliver something special.
Fiction Writer isn’t just a feature. It’s a promise. It’s a playground for storytellers, and it’s going to blow your mind. But first, we have to get through the hard part.
Some days I feel like it’s an unsurmountable task and things will never be done, but when I look back at what has already been done, the feeling usually goes away.
We’re making something beautiful. And we’re doing it together.
