Over the last few weeks, I’ve been talking a lot about Magic Writing Coach, and a few Magic Bookifier users have understandably asked:

What does this mean for Magic Bookifier?

So I wanted to give you a clear answer.

Magic Bookifier is not going away.

In fact, we’ve decided on the direction for the next phase of Magic Bookifier, and I think it fits the product better than trying to turn it into something completely different.

Magic Bookifier Has Always Been a Collection of Specialized Writing Tools

Magic Bookifier was built around a number of different tools for different kinds of writing tasks.

Some help turn existing material into a book.

Some help create chapters.

Some help transform transcripts, audio, or text.

Some help generate longer-form material.

That modular approach is actually one of the things that makes Magic Bookifier useful.

Rather than forcing every person through one single workflow, you can choose the tool that fits the material you already have and the thing you are trying to make.

So instead of abandoning that approach, we’re going to lean into it.

The Next Version of Magic Bookifier Will Be More Modular

The goal is to move Magic Bookifier toward an architecture that makes the individual tools much easier to update, improve, and expand.

AI is changing very quickly.

New models appear.

Capabilities improve.

New workflows become possible.

And we don’t want every improvement to require rebuilding a large part of the application.

So the idea is to make Magic Bookifier more like a modular AI writing toolkit.

Each tool will have a specific job.

Underneath those tools, we can use newer AI systems and shared infrastructure that make it easier to improve existing modules and introduce new ones over time.

The basic philosophy is:

❝

General intelligence underneath. Specific-purpose tools on top.

Instead of giving you one giant AI box and asking you to figure out the right prompts, Magic Bookifier can continue to give you individual tools built around specific writing outcomes.

That Means We Can Add More Specialized Tools

This is the part I’m particularly excited about.

Once the underlying system is easier to update, it becomes much easier to experiment with new Magic Bookifier tools.

For example, Magic Bookifier can continue to expand around things like:

  • turning transcripts into books

  • turning audio into structured nonfiction

  • creating or expanding chapters

  • reorganizing existing material

  • transforming notes into longer-form writing

  • working with source material

  • specialized book-building workflows

  • new tools built around specific writing or publishing tasks

I’m deliberately not announcing a giant final feature list yet, because I would rather build and release useful tools than promise twenty things in advance.

But that is the direction.

Where Magic Writing Coach Fits In

Magic Writing Coach is a separate product because it evolved into a very different kind of experience.

The simplest distinction is:

❝

Magic Bookifier helps you work with material you already have.

❝

Magic Writing Coach helps you create the material by interviewing you.

Magic Writing Coach is built around one guided process:

idea → pre-interview → Book Outline → chapter interviews → first draft

It is intentionally focused.

Magic Bookifier, on the other hand, is better suited to being a collection of specialized tools that you can use depending on what you need.

So the two products are not replacements for one another.

They are becoming more clearly differentiated.

Why We’re Doing This

When we originally built Magic Bookifier, AI products were much harder to build and update than they are now.

Today, we have the opportunity to create a system where improvements can happen much faster.

That means Magic Bookifier does not have to remain frozen around the exact tools it launched with.

The goal is to make the product easier for us to evolve while keeping it simple for users:

Pick the job you need done. Use the tool built for that job.

That’s the direction we’re moving toward.

More to Come

Omar and I have agreed on this direction for Magic Bookifier, and we’ll be working through how to implement it in a way that preserves what people already find useful while giving us a much better foundation for future tools.

I’ll share more as we start making those changes.

But I wanted to make one thing clear now:

Magic Bookifier is not becoming zombie software.

It has a different role from Magic Writing Coach, and now we have a clearer direction for what the next version of Magic Bookifier should become.

More soon.
